Flooring for Homes with Pets

The other day I watched as my 60 pound Lab slurped to get a quick drink...even though there is a towel under his bowl a puddle started to form on our hardwood floor. I then continued to watch him sprint across the floor and carelessly slide into the rug. Not the most graceful sight, but this got me thinking about what type  of flooring would be best for people with pets. There are several different options and below is a great chart showing the pros and cons of each type.

Carpet Care

Just a few easy steps can help keep your carpets looking brand new!
  • Keep mats by the door entries to help dirt from being tracked into the house.
  •  Make sure and vacuum regularly this will help remove dirt that can damage fibers in your carpet.
  •  Have your carpets cleaned often which will help get out oils and other dirt that vacuums just can't.  Often people wait too long to have their carpets cleaned and it won't be as successful.
  • When spills occur it is important to take care of them quickly. The spot will need to be rinsed throughly to keep residue from being tracked around.
Shaw has an awesome Iphone App (The Carpet Stain Center) that will give you clear directions on taking care of everyday spills and stains. For more information head over to http://www.shawfloors.com/CMS/.aspx?DN=1885,1106,29,4,Documents.
